The Committee on Preparation for Ministry met at the Methodist Church in Redwood Falls on May 17, 2008.

 

Committee Members present were: Donna Buell, Doug Dent, John Lindholm, Iris Stevens, Karen Houtman.

 

Opening

Iris Stevens opened the meeting with prayer.  Minutes of the May 3, 2008 meeting were approved.

 

Annual Consultation with Sara Stegeman Drew (Candidate, Certified Ready to Receive a Call- Luverne)

Sara completed and submitted Form 3 for the annual consultation and included her Statement of Faith and PIF.  The committee voted to recommend to Presbytery that Sara Stegeman Drew be continued as Ready to Receive a Call.  John Lindholm led the group in prayer for Sara and her future.

 

Interview with Christopher D. Drew (under care of San Francisco Presbytery) Chris’ Statement of Faith, PIF and Sermon have been received.  His seminary transcript has not yet been received.  Christopher is preaching in a neutral pulpit on May 18 (for the Jackson church).  The Committee on Ministry- members: Richard Underahl Pierce, Robert Maharry, Robert Bartlett, William Gilbert and Deb Boesch joined CPM for a joint COM/CPM meeting to interview Christopher D. Drew.    Robert Maharry closed the meeting with prayer for Chris.  The committee voted, should the way be clear, to bring Christopher Drew before Minnesota Valleys Presbytery for an Ordination Examination.

 

Sarah Butler (Certified as Ready to Receive a Call by Heartland Presbytery) Sarah is candidating in Windom on May 18, 2008 for her first call. John led the committee in prayer for guidance.  The committee voted to recommend, that if the Windom call becomes a reality, that Sarah Butler be brought before Minnesota Valleys Presbytery for Ordination Examination.  John Lindholm led the group in prayer for Sarah and her future.

 

Tony Oltman is currently a chaplain in a nursing home and is seeking ordination to chaplaincy in that nursing home in Fergus Falls. 

Brad Child  (approved as an Inquirer by Fergus Falls, Federated)

The committee voted to recommend to Presbytery that a waiver be approved (G-14.0470) so that Brad Child may pursue enrollment in Lutheran Brotherhood Seminary.

 

June 5, 2008 meeting agenda items:

*That CPM interview Marvin Dandurand for Inquirer status.

*Meet briefly with Michael Goodwin prior to his appearance before the Special Meeting

  of Minnesota Valleys Presbytery for the Ordination Exam.  Michael was interviewed by

  CPM on May 3 and has since preached before the Amboy congregation and has been

  offered a call to First Presbyterian Church of Amboy.

*Meet briefly with Sarah Butler, if the way be clear, prior to her appearance before the

  Special Meeting of Minnesota Valleys Presbytery for the Ordination Exam.  Sarah is

  candidating at First Presbyterian Church of Windom, MN on May 18.

*Joe Obermeyer (Amboy church)

  Iris Stevens has orientated the Session and Joe will be meeting with them on May 21.

 

The committee voted to adjourn the meeting.  Donna Buell closed with prayer.
