April 7,
2008 Hilda called meeting to order Meeting was opened withdevotions by Sheila
Sjerven PRESENT:Moderator, Hilda Parks;
Karen Evenson; Bev Raske; Sheila Sjerven; Kathy Terpstra
and Betty Thorson EXCUSED: Dan Smith, Doug Dent,
Howard Tobak NEXT MEETING: June 23,
2008 MINUTES: January 24th were read
and approved. DEVOTIONS NEXT MEETING: Betty
Thorson BUDGET: With Virginia's help, we figured out the budget.
The amount we have to spend includes the money from the
Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ. It
does not include the money from Hearts and
Hands. It was moved tha the money from Hearts and Hands
$5601.45 would be used, at least in part, for
scholarship for the Presbyterian students. They UCC
students have $300.00 to draw from. NEW BUSINESS: It was voted that the minutes would now go out by
e-mail as the web site is to confusing. It was voted to send a thank you to Anna Mae
Handevidt for years of serving so faithfully on this
action team. We also found out she has been ill and will
send a get well card also. With discussion of the money we agreed to how the
money could be dispursed.
1. Need to
complete three classes. These will not be
reimbursed
2.
Scholarship will be upt to $75. Applying does not
automatically mean you will get it.
3. You
must be planning to use this education for either
looking for a commission or
something in
education in the church.
We also had a discussion on the
scholarship money and what would constitute a timely
manner of handing in homework. Some of us wanted to
say 3 months others said 6 months. We finally decided
that the student would be given a slip at the
beginning of each class saying what homework is due on
or before the next class. If it is not turned in, then
the s hepherd would evaluate and decide how much
longer the student would have before they would have
to retake the class. It was also decided that the
scholarship money would only be for the first time
they take the class, not a
repeat. SHEPHERDS: Sheila, Bev and Karen have been doing it. We all
said that if they can't they should contact the rest of
us for help. PROGRAM
ADMINISTRATOR: Sheila and Bev are probably going to share this
job. Thanks ladies. EVALUATION OF FIRST
CLASS: Bev gave them the evaluations on Saturday evening
asking them that when they got back to their rooms
that they really think about what they put down and
write comments as 1-5 really doesn't mean anything. Bev
also said that it is really hard to decide what kind of
food to get. This group is into health food, the other
group was into a lot of sweet snacks. Donna Buell got a
good rating. She has told us that she would not be
available for the next cycle, so we need to be thinking
of a replacement. Sheila told us what at this time we have no place
for the students and instructors to stay in November as
there is something with the high schools that will fill
up the motels. We will be looking into alterative
housing. Possibility of being in peoples homes.
Next class is Introduction to the Old
Testament. HANDBOOKS: New revised student handbooks were handed out.
All of the committee things were taken out of them and
they were streamlined. Sheila and Bev worked hard on
this and did a great job. LUNCH BREAK AT 12:00 NOON:
Prayer by Sheila Meeting was resumed: discussion continued on what
should be in the committee handbook. Meeting was closed
at 1 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Betty Thorson, Secretary
