Actions Taken:
1. Approved Minutes of the January 21, 2006 meeting
2. Approved a request from Scott and Pam Prouty for financial assistance to the Multicultural Conference in Orlando, FL at the end of May to the amount of $700. The dollars were to be used to help with travel costs for the Prouty family as well as Pam’s registration for the conference.
3. Approved the request from First Presbyterian Church, Madelia, for financial assistance to purchase a computer through the Computers in the Churches Program, which will pay $750 toward the total cost of the computer, with the local church coming up with the rest.
Actions Pending:
1.Ministry and Mission Visits: Jim Krapf contacted Bill Davis at Beaver Creek and Terry Morris at Luverne but had yet to make an M&M visit. Recommendation was made to re-write the first paragraph of the letter introducing the visit. Another concern was to insure CG&D visits were not made in the same year as COM’s visits. There was also discussion about changing the name of the triennial visits.
2.There is $30,000 available for scholarships for the Transformation Conference in Des Moines, IA. The Rev. Christ Herring, minister at First Presbyterian at Edgerton and Lismore has up to eight individuals (4 from each congregation) as well as himself interested in going. However, the question was raised whether or not this is the best use of these dollars. Could these dollars be used to develop a high quality conference within the bounds of MN Valleys? There was some interest on pursuing this idea. Shirley Luhman would be interested in serving on a Task Force to look into this possibility.
3.A question was raised if there was a “cap” to the amount of dollars one church could apply for when sending individuals to a Transformation Conference. This question will be referred to Bill Kleymann and Jean Bauer who have been working on the Conference and Scholarhsip Guidelines for denominational events.
Next meeting will be held on September 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbytery Office. Meeting was adjourned with prayer.
