MORNING
WORKSHOPS
-
-
A1
Conversation with Leonard Sweet
-
-
A2
Congregational Transformation - Bart Brenner.
-
Transformation is not something a congregation
does. Instead it is
something that happens along the way while attending to God’s
calling.
-
-
A3
Managing Change - Sue Coller.
-
Change
often fails not because it’s a bad idea, but
because we often
overlook crucial steps in helping congregations adapt. This
workshop will introduce various ways of looking at change, and will
give practical tools
for helping planned change
succeed.
-
-
A4
Communications for Churches on a Shoe String Budget - Duane Sweep.
-
Small
churches often feel
a crunch – both in terms of money and time –
when it comes to
communications. We’ll take a look at a variety of ways to speak to
your congregation and community beyond Sunday and on a shoestring –
from newsletters to
bulletin inserts to the Internet. The workshop will include both
media relations and internal communications.
-
-
A5 Front
Porch Church, a more welcoming church - Bill Evans.
-
Years ago,
homes had front porches and all the streets had sidewalks. The
summer evening was
often spent visiting neighbors on your porch. Friendships were
started on the front porch; and as friendships developed, the
neighbors were
invited inside your home. This session will give
you some ideas on
how to create a “front porch” for your church. How to transition
people in your neighborhood from sidewalk to
sanctuary.
-
-
A6 More
than Song Lyrics - Howard Chapman.
-
In recent
years, churches have increasingly used projectors and screens in
worship. While projectors and screens are often just used to project
musical lyrics and
images to enhance that part of the service,
there are a
multitude of other ways this technology may be effectively used during
worship. This workshop will focus on these other uses of
projectors during
worship especially in conjunction with the
sermon.
-
AFTERNOON
WORKSHOPS
-
-
B1
Conversation with Leonard Sweet
-
-
B2
Spiritual Transformation - Bart Brenner.
-
Psalm 116
invites us “to return to our rest.” Is deep restfulness really possible
for church leaders today?
-
-
B3 Smaller
Membership Churches Alive! - Phil Tom.
-
This
workshop will share several models of smaller membership churches
engaged in mission with their communities
-
-
B4 Rattling
the Rafters: Worshiping As If Culture Matters - Lon and Robyn Weaver.
-
This
workshop will help
you to do worship using resources you already have, learn to take risks
in worship, and
understand that Presbyterian worship does not have to be
boring. It will address the use of music, preaching, computers,
and audio visuals in
worship. It will cover spending money wisely for such worship
enhancements in
small and large church settings, and lead you to consider whether
you should add a
new/contemporary/alternative/ to your current
worship
setting.
-
-
B5 Managing
Change - Sue
Coller
-
Change
often fails not because it’s a bad idea, but
because we often
