GATHERING/COMING INTO GOD’S
PRESENCE
The
Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of MN Valleys was
called to order on February 13, 2007 by Moderator, Elder
Kathy
Terpstra at 10:00 a.m. at the Christ
Presbyterian Church in Marshall, MN.
COMING INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
The Call
to Worship was led by Betty Johnson.
The
opening hymn was “God of Grace and God of
Glory.”
The
prayer of confession and declaration of pardon were led
by Alta Gifford.
We
shared the peace of Christ and sang the Gloria
Patri.
The Rev.
Celeste Lasich welcomed us on behalf of the Christ
Presbyterian Church, Marshall, MN.
A quorum
was declared.
The
first time commissioners and guests were
introduced.

PRESBYTERY VOTED to approve the
agenda with the addition of a Committee on Ministry
report in the afternnon as presented.
Social
Action Ministry presented the following mission
roundtable around the theme of immigration:
The Rev. Jim Krapf, Westminsiter
Presbyterian Church, Worthington, MN
shared about immigration concerns, the Rev.
Peg Chemberlin, executive director of Minnesota Council
of Churches shared about the Minnesota Council of
Churches various programs, Katrine and Jim Anderson from
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance shared about their
programs and how PDA responds to emergencies and finally
Gene Foth, director of the Manna Food Pantry at
Westminster Presbyterian Church.
An
offering for the One Great Hour of Sharing offering of
$744.00 was received. We sang the
“Doxology” then the Rev. Bob Raedeke from the
Congregational Resources Commtittee led us in
prayer.
We broke
for lunch at 12:00 p.m. and reconvened at 1:00
p.m.
The
Presbytery sang the hymn “The Servant Song,” then a time
of Speak Out! and announcemnts was held.
ENCOUNTERING GOD’S WORD
The Rev.
David Poppen shared the Scripture Readings of John 6:1-14
and Matthew 25:31-44. The Rev. Daniel
Billings shared the meditation entitled “Partners in
Christ.” The Sacrament of the
Lord’s Supper was administered by the Rev. Daniel
Billings and elders
from the Christ United Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Aaron Alfred shared the pastoral prayer
and the Lord’s prayer.

He called forth Pat Kunze from Budget and Finance
with the following action:
PRESBYTERY VOTED to concur with the
Cambria congregation’s request to
install a new furnace in the church basement.
The old furnace has a crack in it and should be
replaced immediately. The total cost is
$5704 plus electrical. All funds are on
hand. Session approved on
January 18, 2007 and congregation approved on January
21, 2007 with 38 in attendance.
It was an unanimous vote.

The
Booklet of the Proposed Amendments to the Constitution
was distributed at the September, 2006 Presbytery
meeting in Ashby. If you cannot find
your booklet please go to the following internet link
http://www.pcusa.org/oga/publications.htm and click on the proposed
amendments icon on the right side to find the
document. Amendment A is all
about revising chapter 14 in the Form of Government; at
the following link you can find a comparison chart of
the existing chapter 14 compared to the proposed
changes. The link is www.pcusa.org/mgbconnect; you will need
to click on “governance” on the right side then scroll
until you find “proposed amendments to the
Constitution. It is important to
read through the booklet so you can make informed
decisions .
