1) The Water Projects
A) Team member LeRoy Engenga reported a positive experience at Fuente de Luz church in Xela. Total cost was less than last year at Sibilia The plan seems about right. Sibilia project needs followup since they have not continued the teaching. Pedro now knows that followup teaching is important.
B) 2007 project is Sinai Church, San Marcos as well as follow up on the two previous clean water sites. Dates in late February are prefered.
2) October delegation from Minn. Valleys to Occidente Presbytery: Their Presbytery is Oct 23,24, 25. Sue Coller can go. Jim Krapf continues as a possibility. The renewed Covenant to be signed in 07 needs spelling out on the point of their mission to Minn. Valleys which means meetings with Occidente Executive, International Partnership along with attendence at Presbytery. Discussed Almalili's questions about logistics for our delegation in October. Orientation for the delegation could include the video "Precarious Peace" , knowledge of the continuing violence, with the U.S. immigration policy in flux sensitivity to ways we can avoid doing harm and ways we can assist. Our experience has shown Guatemalans mostly unwilling to discuss the violence of the past which may carry current consequences .
3) 5/10//2006 - VOTED TO APPROVE COMMITTEE BUDGE REQUESTS for the Minn. Valleys budgeting years as folows:
2007 = committee expenses $2,000, committee education $500, delegate exchange $6,000.
2008= the same as 2007
4) Partnership Ministry with Occidente to Hispanics in Minn. Valleys Presbytery reported and led by Jim Krapf a) Worthington, Willmar and St. James Churches are on board. b) October delegation will request Occidente leadership to 1) hear the .proposal 2) join in the planning 3) when the time is right, choose the person for the position 4)models looked at all have the person in this position receiving expenses but not a salary. 5) Jim will continue to develop the working plan and our International Partnership will keep it on our agenda.
5) Other business A) Karen reported the ways in which her ministry has formed and reformed. She does it through CEDEPCA (Central American Evangelical Center for Pastoral Studies). Sue will write a letter of our support to the Presbyterians Against Domestic Violence Network - att: Sandy Roher. We also endorse an expansion into the Dominican Republic of Karen's ministry as a Commissioned Lay Pastor.
B) there is an October fund raiser in Willmar
C)Minn. Valleys web site blog now has a Water Project focus.
D) Suggestion for the ever present problem of gifts to take to Guatemala: buttons with the Minn Valleys Presbytery logo. Lynn knows a guy who would love to make them.
Next meeting: Sometime in August previous to Minn. Valleys Presbytery meeting.
