INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS MINISTRY ACTION TEAM

Minutes for 10/26/07

Over-Arching Goals:

1. Enable churches and their members to engage in effective ministry

2. Overcome barriers of communication, culture, gender and age.

3.  Facilitate face to face interaction

4. Interpret and apply understanding learned through the international Partnership

Members Attending:

Actions Taken:

1. 10/26/2007 - Voted to approve August 4th minutes as entered on the Presbytery site.

2. 10/26/2007 - Voted expense Invoices for the recent water filter project actual expenses be

    passed back to Virginia at  the Presbytery office. This accounting should be in US dollars

    figured at the rate of 7.5 Quetzales to the dollar.     The remaining cash may be returned to

   Virginia or passed on to the next project leader.  Bill will contact Harold regarding this action.

3. 10/26/2007 - voted this policy for future cash advances:    "Members of delegations who are

    working on projects may be given cash advances authorized by IPMAT.  Within 60 days of

    completing the project, the members who have received cash advances must submit expense

    invoices and remaining balance of the advance to the Presbytery's financial manager.  This

    accounting should be calculated at the current rate of exchange between dollars and

    quetzales."

4. 10/26/07 - Voted to transfer $5200 in the delegation account to L5075 for anticipated

    delegation from Occiente  ('08) and our delegates to a net work meeting in Quatemala (08).

5. NOTE: This $5200 is in addition to the $6704.71 remaining in accounts #3180 and #3138.

6. 10/26/07 voted that any balances remaining in #3180 and #3138 be transferred to L 5085 for

    Water Project Supplies.

7. NOTE Accounts as of 10/25/07:  #3180 Committee Expense & 3081 Committee Educational

    material have expenditures totaling $995.29 leaving a balance of $6704.71;  #L5075 Int

    Partners Task Force has balance of $8422.76; $4,395.89 was transferred into this account from

    Hearts and Hands Project L5093-2; #5082 Water Project travel (in and out for the most part)

    has a balance of $2156.27;  #L 5085 Water Project Supplies has a balance of $619.55

8. NOTE  '08 Committee Expense: $2000.  Committee Education Material $500. Exchange

    Delegate $7200.

9. 10/26/07 voted that financial gifts between Minn. Valleys Presbytery and Occidente will be

    channeled in the manner prescribed by current National P.C.U.S.A. policy.

10. 10/26/07 It was voted to house at the Presbytery office items and documents illustrative of

      the history of our Presbytery’s Partnership with Occidente Presbytery.

11. Previously approved $500 to $1000 (L5075) approved for Gary to attend Mission Conference

      is to be written to CAPACITA in the amount of $730.35.

12. Authorized Karen W. to write a Valley Bridge article about supporting missionaries of

      P.C.U.S.A., particularly David Thomas.

13. Jim Krapf reported on the Oct 14-15 Synod Hispanic Ministry Gathering: 

            1) there are many models - a provided Hispanic Pastor, a video titled "Prairie Salsa", a

                pastor who has a soccer outreach problem. 

            2) We in the U.S. are a missional church in which the mission is among us where we are

                in the U.S.

            3) Resources for Spanish ministry in Spanish are now much more available.

14. Alma Lili's e mail responding to the idea of Hispanic ministry in Minn. Valleys Presbytery

      and her availability:  It's a good idea. As proposed its larger than someone coming in cold

      and becoming acquainted with 3 or 4 different communities can accomplish.   Alma Lili

      suggests a field study of the several Minn. communities.

15. NEXT INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP ACTION TEAM meeting   Friday, April 11,

      2008.

Actions Pending:

Devotions were from the Year Book of Mission, 10/23/07 describing the Siblia water filtering project from Harold Kampa's report. 

Old Business

1.  Next Water Project:

            Where:  Quizel.  

            Potential dates:  Jan.25,  Feb 1, Feb 8.  

            Who?  LeRoy Ennenga, Gary Woehler, ?Edith Alvarez, ?Thalia Taylor (whose first

                 language is Spanish, St Peter, Union Church),  Kurt (Crosby) Matt Lockwood, (Bill Y.

                 has contacted him). 

            Individual costs: $700-$1000.  

            Cost of Material: $1500 from Living Waters Warehouse in Tenn.-Ozone generator, and

                 filters.

2. The letter of invitation to MVP in Sept '08, including the Presbytery meeting, as been signed

    by appropriate MVP leaders and sent.

3. Clarification is needed on requests from Occidente reported by delegation in 10/06 and

    reaffirmed in Oziel's 10/11/07 email.   Are the requests for Internet Radio worship services,

    and C.D.s for worship for broadcast to Latino residents in MN.   Is this a means for

    Occidente's mission to and through MN Valleys Presbytery to Latino/Hispanic people in MN? 

    A vehicle is not something the International Partnership is prepared to do.

4. Minn.Valleys Pres. Presbyterian Women visit to Occidente Presbyterian Women 2/08:

            a)  Kathy Terpstra may know about this,

            b) Women Walking with Women participants reported no problem in Christian women of

                Occidente gathering with Minn. Valleys Pres. Presbyterian Women.

5. Gathered items and documents of the Partnership.  The box is in the Presbytery office. Karen

    and Edith will review and organize the material.

6. Mission Challenge '07 visit by mission worker David Thomas itinerating in Minn. Valleys

    Presbytery indicated that the emerging mission model is based on friendship, solidarity and

    partnership. 

7. Hispanic ministry initiatives in Minn. Valleys Presbytery:   Attorney Susan Roberts (1st

    Presby Ch, St Cloud) is knowledgeable and works with immigrants.   Rueben Armendariz who

    presented cross cultural ministry to Cong Growth & Development in the past is deceased at

    age 99.

8. November 27 Presbytery meeting at Willmar:  we'll have some time. Report on Water Project,

    Hispanic Ministries, and Invitation for new International Partnership members.
